SWCD Board of Supervisors

What is the Board of Supervisors

The official governing body of a Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) consists of five supervisors. Three supervisors are elected (one each year for a three-year term) at a district annual meeting. Two are appointed (also for staggered three-year terms) by the State Soil Conservation Board based on recommendations of the current supervisors in the district. Individually, Soil and Water Conservation District board members are responsible for the following:

  • To attend or actively participate in all board meetings.
  • To come to meetings prepared.
  • To carry out assigned responsibilities.
  • To stay informed of local conservation issues.
  • To attend area and state meetings of the state association.
  • To participate in training opportunities.
  • To promote the district's work to local landowners, agencies and organizations, and legislators.
  • To identify local conservation needs and work to meet them within the limits of its resources.
  • To keep the conservation district mission in focus.

Collectively, board members have the responsibility to work together as a unit to plan and oversee implementation of their district's programs. If you are interested in learning more about becoming a board member, please feel free to contact the office.
